Madonna to direct British scandal
Madonna is to direct a film based on infamous royal scandal - King Edward VIII's affair with divorcee Wallis Simpson.
According to Variety, the singer and actress - who made her directorial debut in 2008 with comedy Filth And Wisdom - will helm WE, which follows the events that lead to Edward abdicating the throne in 1936 so that he could marry his lover.
Up In The Air's Vera Farmiga is reportedly considering the role of Simpson, while Madonna is currently seraching for an actor to play Edward, and is also working on the script with Truth Or Dare director Alex Keshishian.
Edward's proposal to the American divorcee in 1936 dragged the British monarchy into constitutional crisis and led him to become one of the shortest ruling British Kings.
Madonna divorced British director husband of eight years Guy Ritchie in 2008 and moved back to the US, saying she had had enought of life in the UK, but her love of British culture has clearly stuck.
