Love scenes awkward for Barrymore

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have reunited for their third film, Blended

Drew Barrymore still gets uncomfortable over filming the romantic scenes with Adam Sandler, the actor has revealed.

Their latest film Blended marks the third collaboration between the pair, who previously starred together in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, and Adam admitted being lovers on screen doesn't get easier for the actress.

"Absolutely, for Drew every time," he told E! News.

"It's been awkward when we were strangers for her. But I keep saying, 'They paid you, buddy, get in here'."

Adam also joked about his co-star needing to take a break from him.

"She wouldn't want it every day, so I have to give her a pass every four or five years. Then I jump in and remind her of why she moved on," he quipped.

Adam and Drew, who play single parents, were reunited on the red carpet for the Hollywood premiere of Blended, where they were joined by filmmaker Frank Coraci, who directed The Wedding Singer.

"It felt like the right time. The Wedding Singer was about young love. This [Blended] was about life after a divorce coming together with parenthood. They're both parents now, so they got to bring a really great perspective with even more laughs cause they're both better than ever at acting and comedy," Frank told The Hollywood Reporter.

Drew - who is mum to one-month-old daughter Frankie, and 20-month-old daughter Olive - said: " I love that this woman I played is happiest when her kids are happy, or it's a film where Adam and I's romantic love story is based in being attracted to each other's parenting styles rather than, 'Oh my God, I just love him. He's so awesome'."

She added: "I think that's very mature and cool and I love that film for that."

Blended is in cinemas now.
