Nichola Burley and Kerrie Hayes believe Liverpool, where they filmed new movie Kicks, is the capital of Wag culture.

The starlets play two 15-year-old friends living in the city who obsess over footballer Lee, played by Jamie Doyle.

Nichola said: "I think that's where we first saw a lot of the Wag culture, through Coleen [Rooney], although I wouldn't say she's a Wag as such, because she's used her position to achieve a lot for herself. But you see a lot of it existing up there."

But she believes Liverpool ladies were always glamorous before some became Wags.

She added: "I think it existed before this whole Wag culture came into place. I think girls in Liverpool have always been very cautious of how they looked and they do look beautiful for it."

Kerrie agreed: "The whole week has always been about getting ready to look gorgeous for a Saturday night. And it isn't so much about going out and having a good time - it's about being that butterfly for the night, this is what ladies are like in Liverpool.

"I mean Ladies Day - people will spend the entire year getting ready for that.

"But with the Wag thing, I think it's because you've got the wannabe Wags, the definite ones, but then you've got these ladies, and they've kind of merged together."

:: Kicks is released on Friday June 4.
