Keira, Charlize vie for royal role
Keira Knightley and Charlize Theron are both being eyed up to play Princess Diana in two different films.
Keira, who starred in 2008's period drama The Duchess as aristocrat Georgiana Spencer, a distant relative of the princess, is being lined up to portray the late Princess of Wales in a Pathe biopic, with Dame Helen Mirren rumoured to play her mother Frances Shand Kydd, reported the Daily Express.
The film, which has already courted controversy, would chart the early years of the Princess, her ill-fated marriage to Charles, their separation and her death in Paris in 1997, although details are being shrouded in secrecy.
"They think Keira will be perfect to play Diana," an insider told the paper.
Meanwhile, Oscar-winner Charlize is also rumoured to portray Diana in a production by Bafta-winning producer Stephen Evans.
Ewan McGregor would star as leading man, Diana's former bodyguard Ken Wharfe in the film, based on his controversial book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret, which tells of the eight years he spent as her personal protection officer.
"We are intending to make the authentic movie of Diana by using the voices of the people who were there - and Ken Wharfe was right there at her side at the most significant part of her life," Stephen told the Daily Mail.
Buckingham Palace have refused to comment on both projects.
