John Hurt to return to the stage?
John Hurt has revealed he is keen to return to the stage.
The 70-year-old British film actor - who recently appeared as the on-screen Big Brother for Paper Zoo Theatre Company's production of George Orwell's 1984 - is looking for a modern role that appeals to him.
Hurt said: "If I can find another play, I'd love to. I like modern plays, but I haven't found anything right for me, but we'll see. I'm certainly always looking to do something on stage because it's getting to be a long time since I did anything.
The star of Alien, The Elephant Man and The Naked Civil Servant stars in 44 Inch chest, which is available now on DVD.
Hurt said of the film: "Whatever I say is going to be hopelessly inadequate because it's like trying to describe a poem. Describing a poem is difficult because it is intrinsically to do with the language. As indeed 44 Inch Chest is because it was written by the boys that wrote Sexy Beast. It is all tied up in the language, although I don't want to make it sound too highbrow, as indeed poetry shouldn't be. But it does have its rhythms and its meters and so on.
"Essentially it's a man whose wife has left him. He goes crazy because he's that sort of a guy. He gets all these close people around him, they kidnap his wife's lover and put him in a wardrobe and the whole thing takes place in the room with the wardrobe. It's to do with that whole deep cockney kind of hierarchical society."
