James Franco is reportedly in talks to star in Good People.

The Oscar-nominated 127 Hours actor is considering the lead role in the big-screen adaptation of David Lindsay-Abaire's play, said The Wrap.

Frances McDormand was previously tipped to reprise her theatre role as a single mother in the film, but it's not certain if she's still attached.

James is linked to the role of her former classmate, as the pair strike up a relationship.

David, who wrote the screenplay for Rise Of The Guardians, has revealed that he hasn't worked out how to turn the story into a film.

"I've sort of taken a step back because I need a little more time with it. I don't know that it's a movie yet and I'm waiting to figure out how to make it a movie," he told Collider.

"At this point I haven't figured it out. I don't want to make the movie just to make it, I want to make sure that it should be a movie. And not every play should make that transition, so I'm trying to figure out whether this is one of them or not."

James, who appears in thriller The Iceman and has a cameo as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in Lovelace, has been busy with Child Of God, which he wrote and directed.

He's also set to star in Oz: The Great And Powerful alongside Rachel Weisz.
