Sir Mick Jagger is co-producing a biopic about soul legend James Brown.

Tate Taylor, the writer and director of Oscar-winning film The Help, is in talks to direct the untitled film, Deadline.com reported.

Mick said: "It's a great honour to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerizing performer with a fascinating life."

The Rolling Stone will co-produce with A Beautiful Mind's Brian Grazer.

Grazer began production on the film when Brown himself was involved in the project, before his death in 2006, aged 73.

The film will follow the singer's impoverished and troubled background growing up, and chart his rise to fame as the Godfather of Soul.
