Irish actors including Brendan Gleeson in line for gongs at British Independent Film Awards

BRENDAN Gleeson has been nominated in the best actor category ahead of the Moet British Independent Film Awards.

He was nominated for his role in The Guard while John Michael McDonagh, who wrote the screenplay, has also been nominated.

Gleeson has been nominated for his role in The Guard, which also sees Irish director John Michael McDonagh nominated in the Best Screenplay category for his debut feature.

Michael Fassbender has also been nominated in the same category, for his role in Shame.

Other Irish nominations at the awards include Irish director Cathy Brady's Rough Skin while cinematographer Seamus McGarvey is being recognised in the best technical achievement category for We Need To Talk About Kevin.

The winners will be announced at the 14th annual awards ceremony on December 4.
