Hounsou in, Russell out of Fast 7
Djimon Hounsou is reportedly in talks to join Fast And Furious 7, while Kurt Russell nearly signed on as the villain, producers have revealed.
The two-time Oscar-nominated actor is revving up to play a character in the upcoming seventh instalment, Variety reported.
Meanwhile, Escape From LA star Kurt would have joined forces with Jason Statham to try to take down Vin Diesel's character Dominic Toretto, insiders claimed on Twitter.
"Kurt Russel was almost about to join #Fast7. He would play the father of Jesse, and he would be Toretto's villain," the tweet read.
"He would work together with @realjstatham in the film, as Ian Shaw in #Fast7, to take revenge on Toretto and his family."
Vin Diesel will reprise his role as Dom alongside returning co-stars Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Christopher 'Ludacris' Bridges in the seventh instalment of the fast cars franchise, which will see James Wan take to the driving seat.
Action star Jason is one of the newcomers to the series, alongside Ong-Bak's Tony Jaa and professional mixed martial arts fighter Ronda Rousey.
The Fast 7 Twitter account also revealed that the search for a baddie continues, and there is already talk of an eighth film, before filming has even begun on the seventh.
"@UniversalPics was searching for a bad guy for #Fast7, but he would be even more bad in #Fast8. With other words, #Fast7 is not the final part of the @FastFurious saga. #Fast8 is also planned. (But no release yet ;) )"
Fast And Furious 7 is expected to open in cinemas in July 2014.
