The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has continued to top the US box office, landing at number one for the third weekend in a row.

The Warner Bros sequel earned 30 million US dollars (£18.2 million), bringing its domestic gross to 190.3 million dollars (£115.4 million), according to studio estimates.

Frozen, Disney's animated adventure, took the number two position, bringing in 28.9 million dollars (£17.5 million) over the weekend and 248.4 million dollars (£150.7 million) since opening in late November.

Paramount comedies managed to hold two slots in the top five. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues came in at number three with 20.2 million dollars (£12.2 million), and The Wolf Of Wall Street snagged the number five spot, earning 19 million dollars (£11.5 million) after opening at number two on Christmas Day.

At number four, Sony's American Hustle earned 19.6 million dollars (£11.9 million).
