Hiddleston's bond with Spielberg
Tom Hiddleston has revealed how he bonded with Steven Spielberg - over their love of Guinness.
The War Horse actor, who plays Captain Nicholls in the First World War epic, realised that the Oscar-winning filmmaker shared his passion for the same drink when they had their first meeting in Los Angeles.
"We talked about Guinness for some reason because I told his assistant that I did give up alcohol once, and then I had a Guinness and realised it was a terrible mistake. She said that Steven loves Guinness, at which point he walked in and said, 'You talking about Guinness?'," he recalled.
"He had just been to the brewery in Dublin and told me it was amazing. It's great that my opening gambit was about alcohol."
Being directed by Spielberg was a "childhood dream come true" for the 30-year-old, who has been nominated for the Orange Wednesdays Bafta Rising Star award.
"Spielberg is my childhood hero. I'm a cinephile. I grew up on Steven Spielberg films," said Tom.
"Before the age of 10, I must've seen Raiders Of The Lost Ark about 50 times. I always wanted to be on a horse, wearing a hat, with John Williams writing the theme tune.
"And lo and behold, I'm on a horse, in a hat, with John Williams writing the theme tune. I do feel like I'm lucky enough to live out some kind of dream."
:: War Horse opens in cinemas on January 13.
