Hemsworth bros battled for Thor!

Kenneth Branagh reckons Chris Hemsworth was the perfect choice for Thor
Kenneth Branagh reckons Chris Hemsworth was the perfect choice for Thor

Chris Hemsworth has revealed his actor brother Liam helped him land the lead role in Thor - after missing out on the part himself.

The Hunger Games star Liam auditioned unsuccessfully for the Kenneth Branagh-directed film, but was willing to give his older sibling a hand to nab the job.

"We're competitive, but in the best way," Chris explained to The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

Australian actor Chris admitted he didn't make a great impression with Kenneth on their first meeting, but managed to win him around through a video he made with his mother's help.

"I was on the 17th floor of a hotel in Vancouver with my mom reading the lines to me, and something great must have happened. It got me back in the room," he said.

The film teams Chris' character Thor with other big-screen Marvel Comic idols, including Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America and Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk.

Kenneth said he realised he'd made the right choice with Chris once he began filming.

"We did two or three interview sessions before we tested him," he added.

"We pretty much knew as we were shooting the test that he was the guy. It seemed, across these meetings, he had grown into it. He understood it better. And crucially, he was at ease."

Thor is due for release on April 27.
