Hanks steers in for sea-faring role
Tom Hanks could be taking to the seas for his next role.
The Oscar-winning actor is tipped to play Captain Richard Phillips, who was hailed as a hero after giving himself up as a hostage to Somali pirates, in a forthcoming biographical film, reported Deadline.com.
Produced by Kevin Spacey and the team behind The Social Network, the movie - expected to be based on his memoirs A Captain's Duty - plans to retell the story of the captain of Maersk Alabama, who surrendered himself after the cargo ship was hijacked in 2009.
He was saved by Navy Seals three days later, but the incident sparked international attention.
Tom - who reprised his voice role as sheriff Woody in Toy Story 3 - has been filming Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close with Sandra Bullock in New York.
Fans can see his next reunion with Julia Roberts when they star in Larry Crowne in July.
