The trailer for US horror film 'Goodnight Mommy' is being dubbed 'the scariest film trailer of all time' around the world.

Audience members are being reported as 'sprinting' out of the cinema during the film, which has been described as a 'really disturbing' film for fans of "extreme cinema".

The film tells the story of two twin brothers, nine, whose mother returns home bandaged following a 'cosmetic procedure'. Due to an extreme change in their mother's behaviour, the children begin to doubt this woman is really their mother.

According to IMDB, "what ensues is a terrifying observational struggle with fatal consequences on par with The Shining".

One AV Club reviewer described the violence as "unbearably brutal" and added "I can't blame the multiple viewers who sprinted for the exits when their breaking points were reached".

The Austrian film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and boasts not one but two directors, Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala.

The trailer has been viewed almost 3m views on YouTube and the film is due for release in the US on September 11th.

What do you think, is the trailer THAT scary?
