Gerard Butler is set to save America in new action thriller Olympus Has Fallen.
The 42-year-old Scottish actor - who reportedly spent three weeks last month receiving treatment for prescription drug addiction developed from the physical demands of his action movies - will star as a down-on-his-luck ex-Secret Service agent, who becomes America's only hope when Washington is taken over by terrorists.
The film has been described as Die Hard in the White House, Variety reports.
Gerard and his manager Alan Siegel will produce the movie with Millennium Films' Mark Gill.
Filming is due to begin in September.
The 300 star will first play the lead in diamond-heist thriller Brilliant, which starts shooting in Boston this spring, and has three films coming out this year including Curtis Hanson's surfing film Of Men And Mavericks.
