George Lucas: I'm not a sci-fi fan
George Lucas has revealed he has little interest in science fiction, despite creating the Star Wars universe.
The 70-year-old filmmaker made the surprising admission during a Q&A with Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance Film Festival, reported Deadline.
"I really have no interest in science fiction at all," he said.
George, who sold his company Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, said he was concerned about the growing number of "circus movies" being made.
"A lot of movies you see today are circus movies. Let's see how much blood comes out when it splats. It's now gotten to be more and more circus than substance," he said.
But he denied the Star Wars films are the same, because the technology and visual effects were all for the plot.
"I get blamed for a lot of that. If you go into Star Wars and see what's going on there, there's a lot more substance than circus," he said, adding: "All art is technology. That's the one thing that separates us from animals."
George also revealed the secret to his wealth, saying: "All the money is in the action figures."
And he admitted he was baffled by the popularity of certain animal videos on YouTube.
"I would never guess people would watch cats do stupid things all day long," he said.
