My next movie will be a 'Tarantino-style Hansel and Gretel' says Bafta nominated star
Gemma Arterton has revealed that her next movie will be a 'Tarantino-style Hansel and Gretel'.
The British actress, who is 25 today, and who has just been nominated for a Bafta 'Orange Wednesdays Rising Star' award, will co-star with The Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner in new action movie Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
There had been reports that Arterton would star in Men In Black III (reports of her involvement were "a big, false thing") but instead she will play Gretel in a film by Norwegian horror director Tommy Wirkola.
Arterton said: "I can't say too much about it but it's an action movie. It's kind of like Tarantino-style Hansel and Gretel. And it's very violent. I'm playing the heroine for once - not the sidekick!"
So she'll be a gun-toting Hansel? "I won't have a gun. But I might have a crossbow."
Wirkola directed Norwegian Nazi zombie movie Dead Snow in 2009 and the film takes the 1812 fairytale by the Brothers Grimm but reworks it, pitching Hansel and Gretel as adult bounty hunters.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in Berlin this March.
