Andrew Garfield has admitted he is daunted by the prospect of becoming the next Spider-Man.

The 27-year-old star of The Social Network and Never Let Me Go has been cast as Peter Parker in Marc Webb's 2012 Spider-Man reboot.

Andrew said: "It's very daunting, I don't take it lightly. I know it belongs to everyone that role, so I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I honour it."

The young actor - who stars opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in new drama Never Let Me Go which opened the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday - added he had been reading up on his Spider-Man comics in preparation.

Andrew revealed: "He is my favourite superhero."
