Zach Galifianakis is in talks to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in the big-screen adaptation of Dark Horse comic RIPD.
RIPD, which stands for Rest In Peace Department, would focus on dead police officers who patrol the underworld.
The Hangover actor would portray Roy Powell, "a gunslinger who's been dead for hundreds of years", while Ryan would be Nick Cruz, who is out for vengeance for his murder, said 24 Frames.
Robert Schwentke, who helmed Red, is on board as director, and is hoping to start filming this summer.
Zach's next big-screen outing sees him reprising his role as oddball Alan Garner in The Hangover Part 2, followed by an appearance in The Muppet Movie.
Ryan, who will next be seen in superhero caper The Green Lantern, is currently working on comedy The Change-Up with Olivia Wilde and Jason Bateman and thriller Safe House with Denzel Washington.
