Harrison Ford has joined the cast of love story The Age Of Adaline.

The 71-year-old star of Indiana Jones and Star Wars will appear opposite Gossip Girl star Blake Lively and Big Love's Ellen Burstyn in the romantic drama, Deadline reported.

The film tells the life story of 29-year-old Adaline, played by Blake, who stops ageing after recovering from a near-fatal accident. Over the course of the 20th century she embarks on an epic but isolated worldwide journey, keeping her secret, until she meets a man who changes her life forever.

Indie director Lee Toland Krieger is helming the project from an original script by J Mills Goodloe and Salvador Paskowitz, which has been revised by Allison Burnett. It is due to begin filming in March.

Harrison said in a recent interview he was glad to move away from action hero roles, and become a character actor.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I had exhausted my potential as a middle-aged leading man. And I'm getting to the point where people don't want to see me, necessarily, hit people and kiss girls. So I began looking for the next phase of my career... I don't have to be Harrison Ford any more. I can be anybody I want - if they'll let me."
