Colin Firth is keen to show his darker side, he has revealed.

The Oscar-winning King's Speech star is better known for playing good guys in Bridget Jones' Diary, Mamma Mia! and A Single Man, but said he would take on a "villainous" part.

"I'd love to play a villain - my dark side is as healthy as anyone's. That may not always come across, but I've certainly got it in me," he told the Evening Standard.

"But I can only choose the roles that are put in front of me. I've been given two scripts recently that would have cast me as the bad guy but the characters were just too two-dimensional," he added.

Colin - who next stars in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with Gary Oldman - has started filming Gambit, the remake of the 1966 Michael Caine comedy.

The comic caper, which has been written by Joel and Ethan Coen, also stars Cameron Diaz and Alan Rickman.
