Film review: Getaway *

(No cert, IFI, 87 minutes)
Director: Courtney Solomon
Stars: Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez, Jon Voight, Rebecca Budig

Getaway boasts a plot that would insult the intelligence of a four-year-old and has a very weary premise. Ethan Hawke is Brent Magna, a former race driver whose ridiculous name is the least of his problems. An unseen criminal mastermind has kidnapped his wife and will kill her if Mr. Magna does not drive like a lunatic around Sofia.

Along the way he picks up a mouthy teenager (Selena Gomez) as the crook's deeper plans slowly become clear. Getaway looks awful and is basically one long, badly edited car chase. It's like something you may have regretted renting on video in the 1980s.
