Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are among the most influential people in the US, it has been revealed.

The Oscar-winning directors take the second and third places in the list by Forbes.com, while talk show queen Oprah Winfrey retained her crown in the top spot for the second year running, winning an influential rating of 48 percent.

Steven - who has directed critically acclaimed movies such as Lincoln, War Horse and Saving Private Ryan - received a rating of 47 percent, while Martin, affectionately known as Marty, was given 42 percent.

E-Poll chief executive Gerry Philpott, who helped compile the research, said that Steven's 1975 film Jaws made him highly influential: "To this day, ask anyone what they think about before going in the ocean."

Filmmakers Ron Howard and George Lucas rounded out the top five, tied with a rating of 41 percent each.

U2 frontman Bono was voted ninth for his charity work, while actor-director Clint Eastwood took the 11th place in the poll.
