Fifty Shades flick starring roles 'shunned' by stars
Many stars were reportedly "reluctant" to be involved with the 50 Shades of Grey movie.
This week author E.L. James confirmed that Charlie Hunnam will portray sexy and secretive millionaire Christian Grey in the erotic film adaptation, with Dakota Johnson winning the role of naïve Anastasia Steele.
Many fans went into meltdown at the news, as bigger names such as Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer had been linked to the lead, but it's been claimed it was tricky to cast the release.
Francine Maisler's casting company secured the stars and according to New York Daily News she was worried about finalising details right up to the last minute.
"The day before the news broke about who was cast, Francine was having lunch with a friend at the bar and said things were being finalised that moment,” the insider claimed. “Francine flat out said, ‘It was very hard to cast this movie because a lot of people didn't want to do it.’
"She was getting confirmations up until the last minute... She said big names were just reluctant to do it, and that things were tense leading up to the release to the media."
In the book, Anastasia embarks on an S&M relationship with Christian, who has a dark past, and there are many sex scenes.
After Charlie and Dakota were confirmed as the leads many fans slammed the decision. There were complaints that the actor doesn't look enough like Christian in the book, with things getting so bad that the flick's producer took to Twitter to defend the choice.
"There is a lot that goes into casting that isn’t just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc.,” Dana Brunetti wrote. “So if your favorite wasn’t cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective (sic).”
