Fassbender's finest movies
Michael Fassbender announced himself as a major new talent in McQueen's film. He lost 40 pounds to portray the strikers' charismatic leader Bobby Sands, and was unforgettable in a hugely demanding role.
Ridley Scott's big budget prequel to Alien might have disappointed some, but Fassbender was by far the best thing in it, and gave an uncannily convincing portrayal of David, a fastidious android who has modelled himself on Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia.
12 Years a Slave (2013)
Terrifying is just about the only word that adequately describes Michael's work in Steve McQueen's harrowing historical drama. He plays Edwin Epps, a 19th Century southern plantation owner who's cruel above and beyond the call of duty and seems eaten up by hatred.
