Farrell in Doctor Strange talks
Colin Farrell is among a string of names linked to the role of comic book character Doctor Strange.
Negotiations with Joaquin Phoenix for the title role in the Marvel movie were thought to have broken down, but he is said to have had seconds thoughts and is still in the running.
Now sources have told The Wrap that the studio has since reached out to several actors to replace him including Colin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Keanu Reeves, Jared Leto, Justin Theroux and Oscar Isaac.
Irish actor Colin is about to begin shooting the new series of HBO series True Detective, which is scheduled to finish early next year, freeing him up in time for the movie.
Marvel president and producer on the project Kevin Feige has previously said that the role does not call for a "movie star" to carry it.
The studio has reportedly been keen to work with Sherlock star Cumberbatch for some time, but he is tied to the new series of Sherlock and starring in a production of Hamlet in London next year.
Doctor Strange first appeared in 1963 and is a neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme protecting Earth against threats.
Scott Derrickson is directing the movie, due to be released on July 8, 2016.
