Luke Evans has admitted the thing he misses most when making sacrifices to get buff is booze.

The Fast And Furious star told Men's Health magazine that he had realised when getting into Hollywood that he would need to work hard to get in shape, but hated dieting.

He said: "There was this epiphany when I realised that if I was going to do this job I would have to train a lot. It was a big f***er.

"When I'm training hard the diet is miserable. I love my food and I like wine and it's really tough. What I miss most is alcohol. When everyone is having a drink and you can't it stops you going out as much.

"Booze is a nightmare for empty calories and you can't train the day after. Socialising and enjoying a night out - not doing that is the hard bit."

Luke added that the thought of who his co-stars would be kept him working out: " I wouldn't say being in a film with The Rock was motivating. Terrifying would be a more accurate description. You look at this guy and think, 'F*** me you're enormous.' He's huge. Genetically he's a massive man.

"But for me it was more about how I felt being ripped, rather than looking as muscular as the rest of them. I knew I had to be able to stand up to their characters. One day I had to repeatedly kick Vin Diesel in the head, and I had to know I could do that, take after take."

The full interview appears in the November issue of Men's Health, on sale Friday, October 3. Also available as a digital edition.
