Emily Mortimer's messy car secret
Emily Mortimer may play the sleekest of cars in Pixar's latest animation, but the actress admits her own history of vehicle ownership is far from glamorous.
The 39-year-old, who's married to fellow actor Allessandro Nivola, said: "My father-in-law used to joke that you needed a tetanus jab in order to get into my car.
"They were covered in half-eaten sandwiches and old tin cans and goodness knows what was growing on the floor of them."
Emily voices rookie spy Holley Shiftwell in Cars 2, alongside fellow new recruit to the cast Sir Michael Caine.
And she revealed she never imagined she would be cast in such a glamorous role.
She laughed: "I never thought I would either be a Bond girl or a car in a movie, and I'm both in this, which is great!"
Emily compared working on Cars 2 to collaborating with veteran director Woody Allen.
The British actress, who appeared in Allen's Match Point, said she found both processes equally nerve-wracking. "There's very little in the way of preparation for these films, it's a bit like doing a Woody Allen film in that sense," she said.
"You turn up and you've really been cast for who you are I think, and you have to trust that that's what has happened and they really think that you should be this person."
She added: "You don't really have a script in the beginning - you can only be yourself."
