Elle Fanning to play Mary Shelley
Elle Fanning has signed up to star in a new period romance about the love affair between Mary Shelley and Percy Shelley.
The Maleficent actress will play the English novelist Mary Wollstonecraft, who later published Frankenstein's Monster as Mary Shelley, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It tells the story of her romance with charismatic poet Percy from the age of 17 - soon after she would write the classic novel.
A Storm In The Stars is being directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour, the first female director to come out of Saudi Arabia, and concentrates on Mary as a young woman out of step with her time because of her education and intellectual upbringing.
Producer Amy Baer said: "Elle is amazingly smart and talented and very much relates to Mary as a young woman. She is going to do something extraordinary in this role that will transition her from a compelling young adult to a formidable leading lady."
The film is expected to begin shooting in 2015 and is Elle's second big project since Maleficent - earlier in the year, she signed up to star in How To Talk To Girls At Parties, an adaptation of a Neil Gaiman short story.
