Idris Elba has confessed he had trouble fitting back into his costume for Thor 2

Idris Elba has admitted that reprising his role as Heimdall in Thor 2 was "torture" because his costume didn't fit.

The Luther star returns to play the Asgardian gatekeeper in the Thor sequel, The Dark World, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.

"It was torture actually. The costume really doesn't fit me any more," he said.

"But it was good fun, it was good to bring it back. We got to experiment a little bit and expand into the character and the world more."

Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor, who previously worked on Game Of Thrones, Mad Men and The Sopranos.

"I like Alan a lot. He knows what he wants, he's a really technical wizard and knows how to make a good film," he added.

Idris will next star as former South African leader Nelson Mandela in biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

Thor: The Dark World opens in cinemas on October 30.
