Joel Edgerton has won the role of Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby.
The Australian actor will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and fellow Antipodean newcomer Elizabeth Debicki.
Baz Luhrmann, who will be directing, confirmed to Deadline he'd found his man: "In casting Tom, one had to find an actor who could credibly be (as Fitzgerald describes him) 'one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven,' had five-star acting chops and in the big dramatic showdown scenes between Gatsby and Tom, hold the screen against Leonardo DiCaprio, in the appropriate age group."
He added: "Any wonder, it has been a long and thorough journey. The simple truth is that Joel came into our rehearsal space in New York and fulfilled all of the above criteria, and then some."
Inception star Leonardo will play the titular character in the update of the F Scott Fitzgerald classic, with Tobey as Nick Carraway, Carey as Daisy Buchanan, Isla as Myrtle (Tom's mistress) and Elizabeth as Jordan Baker.
Joel, who next stars with Tom Hardy in action flick Warrior, has appeared in Kinky Boots and Smokin' Aces and had been tipped for a role in the Bourne Legacy spin-off, which eventually went to Jeremy Renner.
