Stephen Dorff has revealed his late mother inspired him to take a part in Somewhere.
The star said his mum always wanted him to play a role with heart, and he won the part on the first anniversary of her death.
Stephen was in France, where writer-director Sofia Coppola lives, and when she called to tell him he got the part, he saw the Eiffel Tower light up.
The 37-year-old said he "felt my mom with me for the first time in a year that was pretty dark and pretty empty."
In the film, Stephen plays bad-boy actor Johnny Marco, who lives a party-drenched lifestyle until his young daughter unexpectedly comes to live with him.
