Domhnall Gleeson officially announced as part of cast of new Star Wars movie
IRISH actor Domhnall Gleeson is among the names officially revealed as part of the cast of the new Star Wars movie.
Gleeson - son of legendary Irish actor Brendan - will join Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode VII
Director J.J. Abrams said: “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
"It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again.
"We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
J.J. Abrams will direct Episode VII from a script he co-wrote with Lawrence Kasdan.
The story is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.
Disney announced almost 18 months ago that it would reboot the Star Wars saga with a new trilogy of films.
The company had purchased George Lucas’ company Lucasfilm for $4.05bln.
Lucas, who was behind franchise, is serving only as a creative consultant on the films.
Domhnall Gleeson has seen his star rise since shooting to fame in the final Harry Potter films.
He took his place on the red carpet last Thursday alongside Michael Fassbender and Lenny Abrahmson at the European premiere of their film 'Frank' at the Light House Cinema in Dublin.
