The director of upcoming movie Your Sister's Sister has confessed she was pleasantly surprised when Emily Blunt agreed to join the cast.

Emily appears alongside Mark Duplass and Rosemarie DeWitt in the indie comedy-drama, directed by Lynn Shelton.

Speaking at the film's Los Angeles premiere, Lynn admitted approaching the 29-year-old for the role of Iris was a "shot in the dark".

"I always believe in her, she's always so emotionally grounded and that's what I love in an actor - she was at the top of my list for that role," Shelton explained.

"It was kind of a shot in the dark, I thought I might as well try, I really didn't expect anything of it.

"But she said it was an easy yes, which is really wonderful to hear."

In the movie, The Devil Wears Prada star plays Iris, who invites her grieving ex-boyfriend to recuperate in her family's remote cabin, only for him to drunkenly get involved with her gay sister Hannah, played by Rosemarie.
