Danny DeVito is proud of his electric car, not just because it's cool but because it helps the environment.

The 67-year-old actor - who stars as the voice of The Lorax in the new animated adaptation of Dr Seuss's book - tries to do what he can to live a green life.

Danny said: "You can always do more. But I always feel that for the past bunch of years that I'm doing as much as I can right now.

"I was one of the first people to have an electric car back in the day and they took it away because they knew it was going to catch on and it was going to be not what the oil companies want.

"Now I have an electric car, a new one, I've had it for the last six months and I haven't been to a gas station in the States, and the prices are astronomical there.

"And it's really kind of fun, it's not so much to save that much of the pennies, which is a really cool thing to do, but it's kind of to give the message to people who look at the car and it says 'zero emissions'. which is what I think we're all hoping for."

The Lorax tells the story of a forest guardian who shares the enduring power of hope, and follows the journey of a 12-year-old boy (voiced by Zac Efron) searching for a real Truffula Tree.

To find it, he must uncover the story of the Lorax, the acerbic yet charming character who fights to protect his world in a story that highlights the importance of balance between nature and progress.

Danny says Dr Seuss' book, first published in 1972, is "prophetic", when we now know that the way we live is destroying the world we live in.

Danny added: "I hope we wake up."
