Deschanel heads to Driftless Area
Zooey Deschanel is to star in dark comedy The Driftless Area.
The New Girl star will join Anton Yelchin, John Hawkes, Ciaran Hinds and Alia Shawkat in the cast of the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Tom Drury's novel, reported Variety.
Zooey will play an "enigmatic" woman, with Anton as a bartender who falls in love with her. John, who has received award nominations for his performances in The Sessions and Winter's Bone, will portray a volatile criminal.
Zachary Sluser will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with the author.
Shooting is scheduled to start on May 14 around Vancouver, Canada.
The Driftless Area would mark Zooey's first return to the big screen in three years. The 34-year-old actress, best known for playing kooky teacher Jessica Day in New Girl and starring opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in (500) Days Of Summer, was last seen in 2011 comedies Your Highness and Our Idiot Brother.
