John Cusack and soul star Maxwell have become the latest additions to Lee Daniels' upcoming film, The Paperboy.
The Hot Tub Time Machine actor is set to step into the role previously linked to Tobey Maguire, as a prisoner on death row, but there are no details about the character multi-Grammy winner Maxwell will play, reported Variety.
The casting of Maxwell follows the lead of singer Lenny Kravitz, who made his big-screen debut in Lee's previous film Precious.
Based on a 1955 novel by Pete Doctor, The Paperboy follows a reporter - Matthew McConaughey is in talks - and his brother (Zac Efron) as they investigate a murder that put the suspect on death row.
Nicole Kidman will be a woman who writes letters to inmates on death row, and eventually becomes the reporter's love interest.
The Paperboy marks Lee's follow-up to 2009's Precious, which starred Gabourey Sidibe, Mo'Nique and Mariah Carey and was nominated for six Academy Awards.
