Cruising skies again as Maverick?

Tom Cruise could still be back in a Top Gun sequel

Tom Cruise fans have been given hope he could still return to his Maverick role as producer Jerry Bruckheimer is keen for a Top Gun sequel.

At a producers' conference Jerry revealed his fledgling plans to get Tom back in the skies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He said: "As long as he (Tom Cruise) keeps his enthusiasm, hopefully we can get it made."

Top Gun, released in 1986, is still one of Tom's most recognised films and saw him as a flight school pilot intent on beating his rivals and winning over his love interest.

Jerry also produced this summer's upcoming Western blockbuster The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, and said he's already hoping for a sequel with that film, too.

He said: "If the audience likes the movie, hopefully The Lone Ranger will continue as a sequel."

The filmmaker revealed shooting The Lone Ranger had involved four to six horses playing one part, and building two trains and five miles of track arranged in a loop so that filming wouldn't need to stop.

The Lone Ranger is due to be released in cinemas on August 9.
