Cruise on board for Top Gun 2?
Tom Cruise could be back for a small role in Top Gun 2, it has emerged.
A source close to the project told the Vulture film blog that screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, who is penning the script, has found a way to incorporate Tom's character Lt Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell into the sequel.
The source said that the star has agreed to take a smaller role in the film, provided it's not too "obvious" a part.
Vulture also reports that Paramount Pictures has made offers to both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to follow up their 1986 action classic.
Jerry let slip that he had been "approached again to start talking about (a sequel)" but said that "the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago" when he promoted Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice this summer.
Top Gun, which also starred Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer, became a huge box office hit on its release.
It propelled Tom into a Hollywood superstar and was nominated for several Oscars and Golden Globes.
