Jessica Chastain is in discussions to be cast alongside Tom Cruise in Horizon.
The actress, who starred with Brad Pitt in Tree Of Life, is negotiating to play one of the two female leads in the film, which was previously called Oblivion, Collider reports.
In the film, which is based on a graphic novel, Tom will play a soldier who gets sent as punishment to the surface of the earth, which has been destroyed by aliens.
He then meets a female traveller, who has crash-landed on the planet in a space pod.
The other female lead is the soldier's wife, although it is not yet known which part Jessica is down to play.
Other actresses rumoured to be negotiating for a part include Olivia Wilde, Noomi Rapace, Brit Marling and Olga Kurylenko.
Horizon will be written and directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Tron: Legacy.
