Tom Cruise will star in the movie adaptation of the musical Rock of Ages, the film's director has said.
Adam Shankman, who directed the hit movie version of Hairspray, confirmed via Twitter that the Mission Impossible actor is set to star alongside Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin and Mary J Blige.
He tweeted: "Can't wait to start #rockofagesmovie. Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Mary J Blige, Tom Cruise confirmed. I love my cast. More to come".
Adam also revealed that the script for the movie is nearly finished, tweeting: "After 14 hour day of writing with Justin Theroux on Rock of Ages polishing the script, I'm relaxing".
The musical movie recounts the story of a small town girl who moves to Hollywood during the massive 1980s rock era and falls in love with a rock star in LA joint The Bourbon Club.
The musical includes hit songs by Journey, Styx and Pat Benatar.
