Alex Pettyfer has said he hopes his new movie I Am Number Four proves to be as big a box office smash as Twilight.

The 20-year-old British actor plays Number Four, aka John, in the sci-fi thriller based on a novel about a group of young aliens who come to hide on earth after their planet is destroyed.

"I hope that we have the same success as Twilight, that would give us the opportunity to make a sequel. So please, please carry on saying that we're going to get as many people watching our movie as they do Twilight," he said.

"I don't think the movie is anything like Twilight. I think Twilight creates that teen romance, that angst for love, and I think we have a little bit of that in it.

"But the love in our movie drives the lead character John to pursue his destiny, and the love that he goes through ignites things that he doesn't want, his legacy, because all John wants is normality.

"I think our movie is very complex and I hope that we have the same success as Twilight."

Alex, who's been touted as Hollywood's next big thing, insisted he wasn't feeling any pressure to succeed.

"I'm not aware of it, people keep saying it but I just take it as a compliment, thank you very much. I can't say any more, I just say thank you and I hope I don't disappoint I guess!"
