Carey Mulligan almost sent a 'really drunk audition' for her latest flick
Carey Mulligan almost sent a "really drunk audition" shot on her cell phone to try out for her latest movie.
The British actress stars as Jean in Inside Llewyn Davis, which is the Coen Brothers' latest release. She was overwhelmed when she heard she was in the running for the role and after a few drinks she decided she couldn't wait to show the directors her talent.
"I was so excited so I did the audition after a dinner where I had had a few drinks. My American accent is better after a few drinks and then I decided to eat something - it works for Brad Pitt, who eats all the time in films. It was a really drunk audition," she told UK talk show host Graham Norton. "Thank God, I didn't send it."
The movie is about an up-and-coming singer who is trying to navigate the folk scene in New York City during the '60s. It also stars Justin Timberlake and Oscar Isaac, while Carey's husband's band Mumford & Sons appear on the soundtrack.
It seems the 28-year-old actress has a flare for unusual auditions. She appeared as Daisy alongside Leonardo DiCaprio's Jay Gatsby in last year's major movie The Great Gatsby and trying out for that was very different to some of her other experiences.
"It was daunting. It was really scary," she recalled. "Daisy has to kiss Gatsby but you don't just kiss Leonardo DiCaprio. We were halfway through the scene and I was close to his face but had to ask the director if I should kiss him."
