Carell: Gru could be bad again
Steve Carell has teased that Gru could go back to being bad if a third Despicable Me film gets made.
The 50-year-old, who lends his voice to the former super-villain, gets to fight crime in Despicable Me 2, as his alter-ego turns his back on his wicked ways, instead focusing on being a devoted dad.
"He's never far from being a bad guy. He's a dad in this one, but he still has his despicable overtones," said the actor.
"I don't think his essence will ever change. You don't mess with him because he can be pretty nasty."
Steve, who is joined by Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand, Benjamin Bratt and Ken Jeong, revealed reprising the recognisable Gru voice was really quite easy.
"It's so easy, you can't believe it - like, at the drop of a hat. You don't have to prompt me too hard and I will do the voice," he said, giving a demonstration.
But while he's sometimes tempted to use the Gru voice for everyday activities, he added: "I generally don't walk around doing Gru. Sometimes my kids' friends will ask me to do it but that's pretty much it.
"I don't want to overdo it because then people will really start hating me. Like, 'Oh, he's doing Gru again. Eurgh'."
