Brolin wanted blessing for Oldboy
Josh Brolin asked for director Park Chan-wook's blessing to star in a remake of his film Oldboy, it has been revealed.
The Men In Black actor has the lead role in the new adaptation of the Japanese manga series but wanted to talk to Chan-wook - who made Oldboy into a film in 2003 - first.
So he went to see the filmmaker to ask for his blessing, reported Vulture.
Spike Lee, who directed the new version of the revenge thriller, said: " Josh went to meet with Park Chan-wook and ask for his blessing, and one of the things Park said was, 'Make your own film. Don't do everything I did'."
He revealed that while his film pays homage to the original, it is not a direct remake.
But Spike also admitted that he might not be as happy if someone were to remake one of his films.
"Over my dead body! Here's the thing: Park was OK with it. I'm not," he said, laughing.
Oldboy also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Max Casella and Samuel L Jackson.
