Bridges gets to work on The Giver
Jeff Bridges is said to be eyeing up the lead role in The Giver.
The Oscar-winning actor has had his heart set on the big-screen adaptation of Lois Lowry's sci-fi novel for years, and it looks like the project could finally be coming to fruition.
The title role had been earmarked for his late dad Lloyd, but Variety reports that the True Grit star is now considering it for himself.
The best-selling book is set in a futuristic, dystopian world, where society has erased memories and emotion and the responsibility for remembering the past is given to a single person, the Receiver.
The hero, Jonas, is selected to be the new Receiver, but while being trained by the titular Giver (Jeff's character), a previous Receiver, he finds himself struggling with the duties he bears.
It's been 40 years since Jeff's career kicked off in The Last Picture Show, and The Giver would be the first time he has served as producer since 1992's American Heart. He was also executive producer on Crazy Heart, which won him an Oscar for best actor in 2009.
The 61-year-old is about to shoot two films - The Seventh Son and comic book adaptation RIPD with Ryan Reynolds.
