Irish box-office takings have fallen by the biggest amount in 20 years, movie statistics body Rentrak says.

Several movies with massive money and marketing muscle behind them tanked in 2013.

Johnny Depp couldn't save 'The Lone Ranger', which took just €366,000 from Irish movie-goers and lost Disney around €70m.

Compare that with 2013's top Irish earner, 'Despicable Me 2', which grossed €3.75m or 'Iron Man III', which took in €2.82m.

Guillermo del Toro's monsters vs robots epic, 'Pacific Rim', took €613,000 and the second in Vin Diesel's alien franchise, 'Riddick' had less than out-of-this-world takings of €164,000.

Seth Rogan's 'The Guilt Trip' made just €142,000; and audiences stayed away from Wikileaks flick 'The Fifth Estate', too. It took just €92,000.
