Jodi Benson, who voiced Barbie in the Toy Story films, is hopeful they will make a fourth instalment of the hit animated franchise.

Toy Story 3 appeared to wrap up the series when Andy's toys, including Woody and Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, were given away to a children's nursery.

But Jodi, best known for voicing Ariel in Disney classic The Little Mermaid, revealed: "I have heard from various folks the talk of doing a fourth one. Of course that would be amazing, because I think each one has just been stronger than the first. It's a really great series."

She said working on the Pixar movies was, "really fun".

"John Lasseter is just an incredibly talented genius. My first day with Toy Story was playing with a box of Barbies actually with John; playing with them and creating what she might sound like, because we didn't have a voice for her in particular.

"But he wanted to make her very real, very vulnerable, and not just make her an external plastic sort of character, but bring a real humanness to her."

Jodi admitted being the voice of The Little Mermaid has changed her life.

Recalling her first audition she revealed: "I had never done a voiceover job before, so I went and talked into the mirror, created what I kind of thought she would sound like and then went back in and created a reel to reel audition, and about a year and a half later I got the call that my tape had been selected, so it was totally a miracle."

The Little Mermaid is now available on Disney Blu-ray and DVD.
