Banksy a no-show at Oscars event
Graffiti guru Banksy could be absent from this weekend's Oscars.
The enigmatic UK artist, who is up for an Academy Award for his film Exit Through the Gift Shop, didn't appear with his fellow documentary feature nominees during a panel at the motion picture academy's Beverly Hills headquarters - and the film's producer Jaimie D'Cruz isn't sure he'll turn up for Sunday's ceremony.
"Not as far as I know," he teased.
Banksy is thought to be in Los Angeles however, as several new artworks have sprung up around town this month.
His controversial film is up against the war chronicle Restrepo, financial meltdown expose Inside Job, environmental odyssey Gasland, and garbage dump art project Waste Land.
When Banksy was nominated he released a statement saying: "This is a big surprise. I don't agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I'm prepared to make an exception for the ones I'm nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me."
