Judd Apatow has confessed he held back on telling his family his film had been nominated for a Golden Globe - because he didn't want to overshadow his daughter's birthday.
The modest producer, whose movie Bridesmaids is nominated for best motion picture, comedy or musical, told People after the nods were announced: "Today was my daughter Maude's 14th birthday, so I didn't tell anyone in my family about the nomination.
"I didn't want to distract from our morning festivities. I thought it would be rude to make it all about me."
But he insisted he'd be taking time out to toast the success of the comedy, starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne.
"I'll celebrate tomorrow when it's daddy's time to shine," he said. "The nomination is completely unexpected. It's very fun."
